People have been fascinated with mastering the often frustrating game of golf ever since the game was invented back in the 15th century. Since 1750 the game of golf evolved into what we know it as today. Although golf equipment technology and teaching techniques have improved, mastering the game of golf is still as difficult as ever.

Luckily, today we have access to golf tips online with the Internet. Even though I have played golf for over 30 years, I struggled to master the game until a few years ago. With the various golf resources you can search for online, it is now easier to discover the tips that can make a big difference with your game of golf.

There are many excellent paid products, like golf instructional DVD’s, golf swing aids, and even some golf e-books that can help you master the game of golf. But, you can also find some valuable free golf tips online as well. Although you sometimes will find that there are many different techniques - especially regarding the grip and the transition from backswing to downswing.

Just try out the different techniques and see what works for you. The golf swing is a fairly complex movement and there are several styles; from the traditional swing to the newer stack and tilt golf swing. Some online golf tips tell you to grip the club tightly, firmly or even loosely. These terms are quite subjective as to the amount of pressure to use, so just experiment until you find the right grip - I prefer “firmly.”

When looking for golf tips online, take into account that there is more to golf than just learning the golf swing. Look for resources that show you the most comprehensive golf tips online. One of the most important areas of golf, that is often ignored, is the mental game of golf. You want free golf tips? First, learn to dominate your inner game of golf.

It is important to know what the right golf equipment is for your type of game (golf clubs and balls.) If you are a novice, look for clubs that are matched for the beginner golfer as they are more forgiving to miss-hits. Buy a driver and fairway woods with a graphite shaft, large titanium head, and perimeter weighting. For the irons, select iron shafts for accuracy, more sole weighting, and wider soles for easier playability. For high handicap golfers or beginners, play a two-piece, firm feel, mid spin golf ball.

Look for golf tips online that cover the whole aspect of golf. Things you need to learn include the grip; setup and stance; backswing, transition, and downswing; driving, fairway shots, chipping, putting, and bunker shots; course management; how to fix problems like the slice, hook, and pull shot; and the different trouble shots you will face - deep rough, hill lies, playing into the wind, etc.

Of course, you can pay a professional golf instructor to learn all these things, but you will end up paying a fortune for dozens of lessons. I would recommend starting out to learn as much as possible with free online golf tips. You could then take a few one-on-one golf lessons and then go to the driving range to practice. Finally, get out on the golf course and play a round of golf - and remember, to master the game of golf, you need to practice - and have fun!

I’m thinking of doing private golf lessons this next spring, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any course/instructor near Atlanta, GA. I live downtown, but would be willing to go outside of downtown (of course) for the right instructor/course. Also, if you have any recommendations on what to look for in a good course/instructor please let me know, as well as what prices are the usual for beginning adult classes so I know I’m not being overcharged. Thanks!!!

I’m thinking of getting my bf golf lessons as a gift. What should I look for when selecting a golf course? I know that the instructor should be a PGA instructor. And I’m looking into private lessons (no groups). Does it matter if the course is an 18 hole course or 9 hole course? Any suggestions on what to look out for would be great.

Golf can be played by yourself if not with your friends. If you are just starting out, make sure that the people you plan to play with are aware that you are a beginner. And if you are playing too slowly (which is bound to happen if you’re just starting out!), do not hesitate in allowing other groups to play through. After all, this game is both mentally and physically challenging. You might also want to invest time in learning through observation. Remember, it is perfectly okay to indulge in analysis as you watch others play before going for your own practice and applying what you’ve learn. Once you start playing, you will also discover that the game allows you to indulge in self-analysis. Playing by yourself can be a lot of fun - you will discover your own desire to improve and compete with yourself. It can also be an exercise in concentration to boot. Yes, golf meditation is possible. To take it a step further, we can even let you in on a secret: Golf is also a healer of sorts!

There are physical benefits to golf, including aerobic exercise from walking, better flexibility, improved fine motor skills, improved depth perception, and improved coordination. For a long time, golf was wrongly considered a less than physically challenging sport. But today, the game is inspiring yoga and Pilates workouts. According to experts, you can get the most out of a round of golf if you walk the course, the length of which could measure about five miles, depending on the course you’re playing. Walking surely improves cardiovascular health, builds endurance, and allows you to burn a moderate amount of calories. And if you carry your clubs, you can also get an upper body workout. Besides, hitting the ball can actually improve your hand-eye coordination, and this, as you know, can be useful in many other areas.

There are ways to save money, although golf can be expensive. You may want to consider renting your clubs or purchasing used ones that are in good condition. You can also find an inexpensive public golf course or driving range. A golf guide that lists the best courses and rates them should be able to help you here. Additionally, you should consider calling the pro shop at a golf course and asking them to cut you a deal. Golf experts say that there is strength in numbers, especially during downtime, so try taking your friends along. Finally, you should think about playing in the late afternoon or during the week rather than weekends when greens fees are much higher.

Golf lessons are a good idea, given that the learning curve with golf can be pretty steep and therefore frustration levels can run very high. You might want to consider taking group or individual lessons; at a reasonable price. Golf lessons will not only increase your confidence on the golf course, but if you eventually plan on joining professional golfers on a PGA Tour, lessons are indispensable, as you very well know.

All golf courses are not considered equal. There exist many differences in the game that change with respect to the golf course where it is played. As for the physical benefits of golf, you may be able to walk some courses without difficulty, but walking the more hilly courses will probably result in your enjoyment going downhill (as you try walking uphill!). It’s important to educate yourself about the ins and outs, and ups and downs of the golf course you want to try. And if you are unsure of your stamina, get a golf cart!

Also, any idea where in the city I coud play (or just use the driving range) w/o being a member? If lessons are not that expensive, that’s one way of using their facilities, since the coaches are typically members.

Eddy Kong Ww asked:

Golfers will do anything they can in hopes to play better golf and hit the LONG ball. Am I right?

Are you in this group of golfers? If so, I’m quite confident to say you’ve taken a golf training system / lesson or or two. Golf training lessons can be very effective in getting you back on track, if your swing has gone south. But, not always….

Why is that so? Let me explain…

How many golf training or lesson have you taken, only to be more frustrated, disappointing at your scores & performance and hitting the ball worse than before that golf lesson?

Do you know why this is happening even to veteran golfers? It can be many different reasons, such as too many swing thoughts and possibly your behavior; making drastic changes that require hours at the range and hitting thousands of balls; or lastly, your body just can’t effectively move in the way it needs to, to make a mechanically correct golf swing, and many more hidden reasons….

I’m inclined to say that for the majority of golfers, especially the older golfer, it’s the last reason above. Your body just can’t move the way it needs to. The question now is, why is that so?

Why can’t your body do what you know it needs to do to swing the club correctly? It can drive you to the point of quitting the game.

But there is hope. There is an approach that will almost 100% of the time correct this problem. Do you want to know what it is? It’s addressing your “physical body and your mind limitations”. That’s what’s keeping you from a great game of golf.

Do you know that hypnotherapy and even the misconceived NLP can improve your game of golf?

Do you ever get on the course and just feel like you can’t make a full backswing? Or, it just feels impossible to maintain your golf posture and “stay in your swing”?

No amount of golf training systems or lessons or hitting balls will correct this.

The reason is your “physical and mind” issue, and until you work on it, it will never get better. I’ve seen it time and time again. Golfers walking off the course in pure disgust.

They’ve taken many golf training systems or even paying tons of money for lessons that they already knew, hit balls at the range, and even bought the latest, greatest titanium drive; and yet still can’t play like they think they are capable of.

Stay tuned for Part 2 of “Why Talking A Golf Training System Isn’t Always The Answer?”

When the sun is shining and the clouds are at bay, many sports enthusiast will smile with glee. After all, sunny weather promises a good day outdoors for sports. At times, the scorching heat from the radiating sun will only add to the intensity of the game and will boost the stamina of sports lovers. On the other hand, have you ever heard of a game that can be played even when it’s raining cats and dogs? Of course not many can name sports that can be played even in a rainstorm.

The majority of sports, especially those carried out outdoors, are largely affected by changes in the weather. The first thing that will feel its impact is the players, who need to be able to adjust accordingly whether it be physically, mentally or emotionally. These are the very factors that would determine the outcome of any game.

Playing golf requires proper training for a golfer to be able to hit a perfect tee while under brooding skies. Weather conditions have a great impact on the levelled surface of the green, as harsh weather can cause havoc to the growth and texture of the grass. This in turn will affect the golfer’s performance. This situation is known as “throwing darts”, as it usually means that the golf ball and the shots are low, which then results in lower points for the golfer.

It is important to realise that the conditions of the green can affect the game of golfers as well as golf course operation. Thus it is vital to have an alternative strategy when you have to play your golf game in bad weather conditions, especially so since golf is dependant on the weather conditions.

The golf greens are more easily maintained when the weather affords low humidity and dryer soil, the main reason why golfers usually play in autumn or in spring. The favourable blue skies and consistent sunny weather as well as the good growth of turf allow a significant time for all golfers to hold their tees.

The roughs when wet can become a lot heavier which in turn make it more difficult for shots to recover. Water ends up between the ball and the club face because of the fewer spins than a normal spin. It is then more probable to cause unwanted consequences after an off-line shot.

This is the reason why an alternate strategy to playing golf is needed when playing in bad weather. A golfer needs to have the ball elevated off the grass as fast as possible at all times. In these kinds of situations also, footprints and marks of the ball are deeper and the sad part is that scores tend to be lower. When this takes place, a golfer needs extra effort to ensure better scores.

Here are some points to remember whenever a golfer plays in wet weather conditions:

- Make sure you keep the grips and your hands dry during a game. Your caddy can bring a towel for you to dry your hands, and another for drying the grips.

- Try to bring a golf bag cover, as this can help keep the grips dry.

- If you and your equipment are dry, you are bound to play better than when you are in an uncomfortable wet condition.

- Be patient when playing in bad conditions and expect that your scores could be higher. There’s no point getting impatient about it, it’s going to make your golf game a lot worse.

- Strategize, strategize and strategize. Before entering the game, visualize winning it. This will help mentally prepare you to face any tough situations that you will face on wet and uneven fairways.

When playing in wet condition, golfers need to have the golf balls to land as close to the hole as possible. This will help lessen the amount of rolls of the golf balls on the wet grass. Also remember that golf balls need to be hit harder to prevent breakage and to stop sooner.

Whenever good sunny skies are non-existent and the weather is not at its best, the most expert of golfers can get through the challenge of playing on a drenched grass field. The rule to remember is that when faced with the most hopeless of situations, a golfer has to keep in mind that his competitors are also faced with such challenges. When you are playing golf while you are soaked the time it takes for you to play your game will be longer as the ball is not able to roll smoothly and go very far. However this can be an advantage for the golfers who drive the tee off longer.

When playing golf, or any other sport for that matter, the weather conditions will affect the nature of the game. On the other hand, a prepared and skilful golfer will not have any problem thinking of ways to ward off the bad effects that the weather might have on his game. With sheer determination to play the best that he can, as well as knowledge on how to outsmart the weather, a golfer will make playing golf a breeze even in the most adverse weather conditions.

In playing golf, how do you decide which golf equipment suits you the best? Which type of equipment should you invest your money in? Choosing the wrong equipment could easily affect your golf game. Avoid this at all costs.

To let you make informed decisions, read the following guidelines and keep them in mind when you are shopping for your first golf equipment, be it golf balls, golf shoes or golf clubs.

Do Not Be Afraid To Ask Questions

The first thing that you should do is to ask around. You could ask your relatives or friends, colleagues or even your neighbours. Make sure that they do play golf. You never know but they might be into golf too. Ask them their opinions and get their recommendations on what types of equipment are worth buying and what to avoid.

Another option is for you to just walk into any store and get their advice. These shop assistants would be more than willing to share their opinions and ideas for new golfers like you. After all, they work on commisions aren’t they? Not only is this an efficient way to get information, it is also practical, as you’re already in a golf store and they can easily give you recommendations.

Set Your Goals For Playing Golf

In playing golf, you must remember to know what exactly your goals are. Remember to be realistic and pay attention to what you need rather than what you want. If you can identify your goals before you go shopping, it will save you lots of time and money. By identifying your goals, you would be able to select the types of equipment that you would really need. You would also be able to choose a new set of clubs in a practical manner, rather than spending too much time and money on choosing golfing equipment that you do not necessarily need.

Think also, of the reason you chose golf in the first place. Why not any other sport? Is it because you would like to join your business partners for a four-times-a-year game? Or is it because you really enjoy golf and would spend all your available hours devoting yourself to it? Once you get your priorities straight, you will find that choosing the golf equipment that suits you best is relatively easy.

Be Honest About Your Level Of Interest And Dedication In Playing Golf

Be true to yourself. How dedicated are you to playing golf? Now that you have decided to spend on golf equipment, be honest about the time and effort that you are willing to put into the game. Do you plan on playing often? How often do you want to practise in a week? Will there be lessons involved? If you are not sure about your plans then it is advisable for you to buy less costly golf clubs. However, if you just can’t wait to get into the game and are willing to spend hours perfecting your game, then you should probably think of investing in a more expensive set of clubs.

Should You Go For Second-hand Or Brand New Golf Equipment?

Again, you have to think about your goals and expectations. If you are in the habit of taking up a hobby and then forgetting it after a month or two, then it is better for you to buy used golf equipment. They are cheaper and yet just as effective as new clubs. Should you suddenly decide that you have fallen in love with the game and would like to dedicate your time and effort into it, then go ahead, invest in a brand new set of golf equipment. And, should you decide otherwise, you can always give the used set away or sell it to other new golfers.

Familiarise Yourself With Golf Shaft Options

To all new golfers, it is wise to pay attention to the golf shaft that you are using. The composition of the golf shaft would depend on whether it is graphite or steel. The flex of the shaft reveals how much the shaft bends when the club is swung.

Graphite is a lot lighter compared to steel. It creates a quicker swing speed. On the other hand, steel is more hard-wearing and tough. It is also a lot cheaper compared to graphite.

As graphite is lighter and easier to swing, it is the perfect choice for women and senior citizens. Meanwhile, younger and stronger men tend to opt for the regular and stiff shafts.

Decide Which Golf Club Is The Best For You

A perfect golf swing is invaluable. Golfers who are just now beginning to learn the ways to play need to choose golf clubs that are specifically catered to those with a higher handicap. The best choice would be the irons that weighed in perimeter and backed by cavity. Also, try looking at those hybrid sets. These have long irons (around 4- or 3- or 5-) and are at times substituted by utility clubs.

Remember; think of your goals, your expectations and your needs. That way you can pick the golf equipment that is the best for you.

MIKE SELVON asked:

Every golfer knows how important a good set of golf clubs is to their game and many golfers spend quite a tidy sum of money to purchase the best quality clubs they can afford. In addition, many golfers also spend a lot of money on private golfing lessons and golf training aids, but sometimes they overlook one simple and fundamental thing; their golf grips.

Outfitting your golf club set with new grips is a very inexpensive and effective way to quickly improve your golf game by helping you have more consistency simply because you can get a better hold on your clubs. With a better and firmer grip, you will also be able to improve your golf swing.

If you have a set of old and worn out golf grips on your set of clubs, then it doesn’t really matter is you go out and find the very best golf training available because the condition of the grips will interfere with your ability to play your best game. Any golfer who is serious about the game is aware of the importance of maintaining their golfing equipment in the best condition possible.

Most amateur golfers never even think about the need to change the grips on their clubs. Novices can play for years with the same set of clubs without changing the grips and then wonder why they don’t see any improvement in their game, even though they put in time to practice and buy other golf improvement aids and tools, watch all the golf training videos they can get their hands on, and constantly talk about wanting to be a better golfer.

Professional golfers know exactly how important it is to change the grips on their clubs regularly. In fact, some pros will have their clubs re-gripped at the end of every round of a golf tournament or other competitive event they are participating in. The reason they do this is so that their clubs feel exactly the same in their hands every day that they start a new round of play.

This may be overkill for the average golfer, but in the highly competitive environment of today’s golf tournaments, the pros are looking for every advantage they can find and they don’t like to leave things to chance. If the professional golfers put that much emphasis on making sure their grips are in great condition, then that should be a strong signal to everyone else interested in lowering their scores and improving their game.

The general guidelines for how often to replace grips are as follows. If you play golf an average of one time per week, then the grips on your clubs should be changed once every year. If you frequently play a round two times a week, then you should increase the frequency of replacing the grips to twice a year. If you also get to the driving range once or twice a week, then you should change those grips even more often than that.

You may not need to replace all of the grips on your club set at the same time. It really depends on how often you use your clubs. You can choose to only replace the grips on the clubs that are used more and are starting to feel worn. However, some golfers like to have all of the clubs re-gripped at the same time so that, for awhile at least, all the clubs have the same feel to them.

It is recommended that you monitor the condition of your golf grips and give them a thorough inspection about once every month. If you play more than once a week, then you might even want to check them more frequently. If you notice that your grips look shiny and feel slippery, then they need to be replaced. New grips will feel somewhat sticky and will feel good in your hands. You should enjoy a nice sense of confidence as well.
