Gift Ideas for Your Golfing Spouse

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008
golf lesson
David Stargel asked:

In today’s golf crazy world, the odds are good that your spouse is a golf fanatic. If they are not fanatics, they are probably at least regular golfers who spend a considerable amount of time hitting the links. If you indeed have a spouse who is an avid golfer, you may be interested in finding that perfect golf gift for them. The question is how can you find something that is a little different but is still the ideal golf gift for your spouse. There are many items of golf equipment and accessories that you can consider purchasing for your spouse. Let’s take a look at some non-traditional golf gifts that you may not have considered.

Does your spouse play different golf courses frequently? Sometimes golfers like to collect golf balls from the many courses that they have played and keep them in a nice wooden collector’s case that they can hang on their wall or on a cabinet in their office. If they already have the golf balls, they might love that collector’s box to keep them in. If they already have the box and a collection of golf balls, maybe purchase a round at a nicer golf club in your area that they haven’t played.

Maybe your spouse has been talking about taking golf lessons. Consider talking to the golf pro at his/her club and have them put together a package of lessons that includes instruction on the range and “on-course” instruction. Many golfers haven’t thought of “on-course” teaching but this can be tremendous fun and help them improve their golf game as well.

A lot of people give golf apparel as a gift so it may seem a little common at first. But have you considered a golf shirt or wind shirt special ordered from a famous golf location? Or maybe give them a very nice rain suit, maybe something in Gore Tex. It may be something they wouldn’t buy for themselves. There are many golf apparel choices nowadays from online stores that you couldn’t find just a few years ago.

You might not normally consider giving golf clubs since it might seem that your golfer has everything, but what about a set of used golf clubs as a second set. What, you say? Used golf clubs? A second set of golf clubs? Well consider this, wouldn’t your golfer love a second set of clubs identical to their first set that they can leave at the golf club and only have to carry their clubs with them when they visit a different golf course? Spoil them with this unusual golf gift! And you can sometimes find them for a price you wouldn’t believe.

If there are some golf clubs that your spouse doesn’t have, you now have a large variety of golf e-tailers online and you can find some great bargains on discount golf clubs. Maybe a special wedge they have been wanting, a new design putter, or a fairway wood to replace those golf irons they can’t hit, like the 3 or 4 iron. Or possibly they have their eye on some brand new golf training club or gadget.

If you are willing to spend some big bucks for a special anniversary or birthday, consider buying a golf trip to a special golf location. They may be dying to play at Pinehurst, Pebble Beach, or maybe even St Andrews. You might even want to go along and enjoy the travel and scenery, or ride along in the golf cart. Or you can pick a golf destination that is very close to one of your favorite pursuits.

One golf gift that your spouse may not expect from you is a subscription to a second golf magazine or to the Golf Channel if they don’t have that. Most times they wouldn’t expect you to encourage them to spend more time watching or reading about golf. But look at it this way, you can give them a golf gift that they love and keep them at home a little more!

Abhishek Agarwal asked:

It’s quite obvious that people try their luck in finding freebies by surfing the net. For instance, you could be offered schemes such as “1 + 1″ offer while purchasing your products in the market. The equation here is the rate of the first item will comprise the rate of the other given as a free offer. This simple equation will be surely followed in any expensive sports, so be very cautious and act smart when the term “freebies” come across your ears. It is better not to expect freebies in expensive sports like golf.

There are umpteen sources available online which caters any kind of information you search for. Explore and surf the net to get all the information related to your search results. Internet is a wide pool of source, where you can get endless information and can also gain intense knowledge of almost anything you want. At times, you may never get information related to your search results, in such cases stay with patience for a short time and search again. You could surely find the information once if you go on surf for the result.

Follow the same criteria when you search any online golf lessons. You could envision quite a number of websites hitting the screen once after your search. Almost every websites listed in the search engines will provide beneficial and useful information to the web browsers. There are hundreds of golfing forums available online and it is a good practice to give an active participation with the forum members. People in the forums will share their real-time experience and also give valuable tips which have helped them to win the game.

It is acceptable, that there are many websites giving their dedicative service specially focusing on free online golf lessons. In that websites, some will be fixed with diagrammatic representation whereas few others will be with plain text exemplifying simple tips like the method to hold the clubs, etc. Some other websites will give complete and intense information about specific situations like getting fixed in a sand bunker, etc.

There are some other websites which acts as the most excellent source of free online golf lessons, by presenting the information in video format. Video instructions will act as a perfect guide for fresh hands, as they train the beginners with simple examples and illustration. Sites which give free online golf lessons give wide options like improved stance for distance, chip shot, bump shot, golf swing tips, making chip shot simpler and a lot more. Either a written document or drawn lesson will greatly help the fresh hand or even the experienced hand to make the game even play better.

Imagine how good you’ll be benefited on visualizing the video version from actually watching another model in the video presentation of free online golf lessons. It is great to get some valuable at absolute cost free service. With the great support of the internet, it is quite easy for anyone to get anything for nothing. All you have to do is, surf the net with patience to get the search results. Search engines are always there to greatly help you to find the free online golf lessons. Should I switch my golf swing to a draw instead of straight shot?

Saturday, April 12th, 2008
golf lesson
Peter L asked:

I just signed up for my 2nd set of golf lessons and they have switched up what I have been taught to do. Instead of trying to hit a golf shot with a straight trajectory…my instructor is telling me my bread and butter should be a draw….everything feels different…you guys think this is a good idea? His reasoning is that a straight golf shot is the hardest of all to hit consistently…mixed results so far…what you guys think

Play Better With Golf Lessons

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008
golf lesson
Ronald W. Firquain asked:

Golf is considered to be one of the most popular sports in the world just like tennis or basketball that is often shown on television. Although not everyone can be like Tiger Woods or one of the world’s best, it does not mean the player cannot learn some secrets and play a good game.

The first secret to becoming a good golfer is having a good swing. The farther it goes, the greater the chances of getting a hole in one or making the ball travel close to the flag. The stroke must begin all the way in the back to be able to produce a coil, which creates power.

The position of the head is also important. The chin must stay up the whole time because this makes it easy to make the left arm swing freely across the chest. This creates the wide arc that is needed to make the ball go in the desired direction.

In any game, the pressure builds up especially towards the end. While some may choke, the best golfers need to stay cool at all times. This means learning to block all the sounds being heard all around and focusing on the task at hand. This takes practice but those who succeed may win the game. The person does not have to be a rocket scientist in order to become a good golfer. Golf lessons that everyone knows about but rarely do is practice. Some golfers use a heavier club during practice to achieve proper technique. Aside from working in the green, many spend a lot of time at the golf range. Being able to hit the ball pass the 150-yard mark consistently is already good since some fail to do so due to fatigue.

One-way of achieving this will be to lift weights, stretch and perform other exercises to strengthen the muscles in the body especially. The player will surely find this handy in the last few holes and must be done at least twice a week even for just fifteen minutes during the off-season. Others get the help of a coach. These retire golfers may teach some drills that can help improve the game. Those who want to do this without any help can use other tools instead such as a mirror or a video recorder.

Another tip for those who have time will be to join sports clinics conducted by the pros. Watching these people is one thing but learning why it is done is more important. Some people will say that the three most important things that every golfer must posses is grip, posture and balance. There is no denying that these are essential. However, one secret often overlooked are the types of clubs being used.

There are many brands out there so before choosing it, the person should find out which one is the best to work with. Sporting goods stores have this while some can be rented at the club. It will also be a good idea to get recommendations from other players and try it out at the same time. When the right one has been found, it is time to buy it and make sure these are always in good condition.

No one became an expert golfer overnight. Even those who have made it to the top have to work hard because things can change in the next tournament and someone else may come out on top.

When To Hire A Golf Pro

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008
golf lesson
Robert Partain asked:

Have you ever heard one of your golfing buddies mumble, “I wonder if I should take a few golf lessons?” Perhaps you have mumbled that question yourself. As for me, I am of the opinion that there are three times in a golfer’s career where taking lessons from a knowledgable professional can be extremely rewarding and valuable.
Those three setpoints are:
When a person is first learning the game of golf.
When the average player notices a decrease in his game and simply cannot put his finger on the problem.
And third, when an above average player wants to refine or hone his skills to the next higher level.
The first and third groups of players are fairly self-explanatory. A brand new player needs to learn the basics and a professional golf instructor can instill the proper techniques in that new player faster than the player can learn by himself.
The third group, the more advanced player, can hone his skills more quickly with a seasoned instructor than with his buddies, who may not even know what to look for or know how to articulate the next skill level techniques that this type of player is looking for. So, it is that second group that I would like to write about today.
This group, in my opinion, is the largest group of players who could benefit from a few lessons by a golfing instructor. Now the two important parts of the above statement that I made are: “notices a decrease in his game” and “cannot put his finger on the problem”.
Let’s make an assumption here that we are not talking about the occasional bad day. We all have bad days on the course, and those days happen regardless of what our level of play may be. Instead, we are talking about the player who over the course of a few weeks, perhaps a few months, has noticed that no matter what he or she does the scorecard result keeps creeping up and up and up for no apparent reason.
Well, apparent or not, there “is” a reason for this decrease in ability and it might take the trained eye of a reliable and knowledable instructor to pick it out and help you overcome it. In fact, there is a good argument that some players will ONLY improve if they spend some time with an instructor. For these players, the underlying fault will only get worse or at best stay the same until somone knowledgable comes along and points a finger and says: “There’s the problem right there.”
Some people might ask if lessons aren’t expensive. Well, they can be. The price per lesson would, of course, depend on the instructor. But as with most things in life, you can shop around until you find an instructor who fits your budget. Also, keep in mind, that you may only need two or three lessons to identify your problem and get it fixed. And wouldn’t that be worth the cost?

Golf Lessons From a Zen Master

Saturday, April 5th, 2008
golf lesson
Albert Medinas asked:

When watching golf on television, one cannot help but wonder how men and women can make millions of dollars playing a game that looks so simple. Honestly, who can’t hit a ball into a hole with 4 or 5 tries? Ahh, but golf is another one of those “finer arts”, and it can take years and years of practice before you break par - let alone try for those birdie thingies! For people looking to get into the sport, golf lessons are probably the best way to go - unless you were raised on the greens like dear Tiger.
So, is there any real difference between instructors, or will anyone do?
Hey look, there are $7 an hour fry cooks at McDonald’s and $100,000 per year chefs - both can teach you how to cook, but the results you’ll experience will be far different. While a higher price does not always mean higher quality, it is a good rule of thumb to go by when looking for the “Zen Master” instructor for your golf lessons.
How do I choose an instructor?
As with almost any decision we make, the budget is always a factor. How much money can you afford? Are these golf lessons to help you meet clients, or are you just looking to learn how to play the game? If you really don’t like golf but know it would be a great business asset, then you will want a better instructor. After all, the golf lessons then become a business investment, correct? You will generally find the more experienced and sought-after instructors giving golf lessons at the higher end clubs and resorts. A Las Vegas golf lesson at the Walter’s Golf Academy might be given by Chuck Matlack, Mike Davis, or Jimmie Pollard - all of whom are seasoned pro’s with great portfolios - and with great rates to match!
Do I have to have private golf lessons, or are there other options?
Now that is a very good question. You can either receive golf lessons from an instructor in a one-on-one setting, or attend a “Golf School” where lessons are given in groups. Clearly, you will get more personalized golf lessons with a personal instructor, but the process can take months, and progress may be slow. But if you want to save some money and need a crash course, then golf lessons from one of the many available schools is the route to take.
What else should I know?
You should definitely know your own commitment level. Look - golf lessons are not cheap. Whatever you learn - be it from Jimmie Pollard during a Las Vegas golf lesson or at Greg’s Golf Shack - you will need to reinforce what you learn with practice. Otherwise, you are just wasting your money. So be sure that you really want to play the game, be it for business or pleasure, before deciding to take golf lessons.
As with anything else, you’ll want your golf instructor or school to be the best investment of both time and money possible. Therefore, don’t be afraid to ask for references, or even to interview the potential instructors before making a decision. After factoring in budget, instruction style, and your own commitment level, select the best golf lessons option for you and your needs. You’ll be glad you did.
